On January 11th Momus appeared at the Future of Music conference in Washington, organised by Jenny Toomey. Also on the panel was Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses.

Summary of the Momus position: Digital technology has made the recording and distribution of music virtually free. The music industry is trying, by means of proprietary encryption and subscription, to re-introduce money into the equation. We should resist that. Music files should be free, open source, easy to read and write, and universally available. The internet was designed by the US military to route around a nuclear attack, so surely it can route around the music industry.
